Why wasn't Saint Augustines estate named after the Church?

Chicken or egg?

Was Bonds Main where the bridge crosses the by-pass to the motorway near Temple Normanton?

Grandad worked there before he moved to Glapwell and Creswell, (or so Ev used to tell us) and as some of the family lived around there assume you are right.

I'm also now on the lookout for information regarding Markham Hostel on Hipper Street

Have you got the right Hipper Street? There is also Hipper Street West which is off Chatsworth Road.

Hell of a lot of whales must have been killed, because there is a Jawbones Hill in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster (all local names). It seems a funny coincidence that all the places that are called that seem to feature a bend in the road, a bit like the shape of a jawbone.

I think you may well be right :)

I've searched Google and (on page 25) all I've found is reference to a post by some guy called Pete :o

.

As for the Church and the housing estate?? The Church is named after two Saints Augustine - one from Hypo and one from Canterbury, so the if the estate was named after the church it should have been called Saints Augustine not Saint Augustines - am I sad or what - don't answer that ;)
