I like bowling. We visited a few times Chesterfield bowl in Hasland and Sheffield Centertainment near Meadowhall. Everytime it was full.
I think to turn old Tesco into bowling hall would be good idea - great place with big carpark and easy access.
    What do you think?
The other thing is this place is not included in the Waterside development and would provide leisure entertainment and employment.

I think it has the potential to accommodate all three emergency services.
A satellite police station, a top rate fire and ambulance station. Perfectly placed whichever way you need to travel.

It's the same with Markham Vale {juct. 29A} stick the emergency services on there, perfect.

I'd like a huge, free lapdancing place with a bar that you get paid to drink at.

Is it not :?: I thought all land from Tesco through to the old Trebor site now basin area was earmarked for development. Certainly make sense if it was.

P.s. Welcome to the forum Hikinboots :)

A pool would of course, impact on Queens Park and Staveley. But I think they missed an opportunity when they built Staveleys HLC, its the most boring swimming pool possible, and hardly gives kids a reason to go flocking there. People travel for miles to go to a good leisure pool with lots of slides, etc.
Add to the ice rink a skaterpark, BMX track, etc and you have a facility that will be a good place for kids to go and keep them off the streets. (And get exercise)
It would need joined up thinking and support though, with the management controls and marketing of the private sector, but with public / lottery funding to keep costs to customers low. So in other words, it won't happen.

Bearing in mind of course the council state it can only be used for class B development, then it will be business, industrial or storage. Retail and leisure won't get a look in. Quite nice of the council to restrict planning so Tesco guys no competition.

Tesco have suggested the council let them sell it for residential so it sells quicker (also probably adding a zero to the value if the land in the process) so expect it to be flats or houses some time soon....

Who's going to buy a plot for a few million on the hope that the council will then change their mind and allow you to build retail and compete with Tesco.

You have to ask why the council restricted its use to prevent retail in the first place of not to "protect" Tesco in the first place....

Though a good point, why are "dirty" sites not re-developed more.
The obvious example that comes to mind is that of the incinerator, The Nimbys came out against that one too. But here in Staveley we have a chemical plant closing down, resulting in job losses. How sensible to put the incinerator on that site. Yes, I know, costs are more because of clean-up, but I imagine less money spent on planning objections, and with a good road link to the M1 too. Swings and roundabouts?
